UKGC Imposes £3.15M Fine on Camelot UK Limited

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has imposed a financial penalty on Camelot UK Limited for failures linked to its mobile app.

All £3.15m of the fine will be paid by the current National Lottery operator to good causes following a Commission investigation into three failures which negatively impacted consumers.

The first failure related to the National Lottery mobile app informing up to 20,000 players that their winning draw-based ticket was a non-winner when they scanned the ticket with the device’s QR scanner between November 2016 and September 2020.

The second failure involved 22,210 players who purchased a single draw-based ticket through the app being charged for and receiving two tickets. All of those players have been identified and either refunded for the duplicated wager or where duplicate wagers were winners, these were honoured as such on a duplicate basis.

The third failure related to the app sending out marketing messages to app users who had either self-excluded through GameStop or had been identified by Camelot as showing signs of gambling harm. While marketing messages were sent out, none of the 65,400 players were subsequently permitted by the app to purchase a National Lottery product.

Andrew Rhodes, Chief Executive of UKGC, said: “We are reassured that Camelot has taken steps to make sure that their National Lottery app is fit for purpose.

“However we must caution Camelot that any failings on their duties will be met with consequences. Today’s announcement reinforces that any operator failing to comply with their licence requirements will be investigated by the Commission and we will not hesitate to issue fines if requirements are breached.”

BGaming's portfolio of online games is now fully compliant with the German regulation
Reading Time: 2 minutes

BGaming is delighted to announce that the studio has implemented all the technical improvements required by the German market regulator and is ready to provide its iGaming content to the local operators.

BGaming’s portfolio of online slots is now fully compliant with the German regulation. The company has started supplying its high-quality games to partners working with German traffic and operating in the .de national domains.

After changes in the new Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021, which allowed operators to provide online slots on a federal level, there were still several significant restrictions regarding the content casinos could provide to their players. The regulations related to the length of the spin, stake limit, auto-play, and other online slot performance.

BGaming has finished the adoption of its existing slots to all the required by German regulator guidelines and is ready to distribute its content to partners operating in the .de domains or working with German-located players.

The requirements BGaming added to its portfolio of games for the German market are as follows:

– Five seconds spin length;

– No autoplay feature;

– €1 per spin stake limit;

– Game’s description in German language, where the RTP must be visible.

Alexandr Shavel, Head of Business Development Department at BGaming, commented: “Thanks to BGaming’s agile technical team, we could quickly define the needs of the local operators and help them overcome the difficulties of the German regulations. We aim to strengthen relationships with German partners and will continue supplying them with the best content compliant with the local law.”

These improvements are expected to grant BGaming further content distribution to the German region and strengthen the studio’s position in regulated markets.

BGaming is a fast-growing game provider converting gambling into gaming. Thanks to an expert team and a player-driven approach, the studio creates innovative and engaging products featured on reputable platforms and 700+ online casinos worldwide. BGaming is the world’s first to support cryptocurrencies and offer Provably Fair games. The registry of the Ministry of Sports and the Interior of Saxony Anhalt has confirmed that it has granted a German Fourth Interstate Treaty (GlüNeuRStv) licence to ComeOn Gaming.

Cherry AB’s B2C unit has registered the brands sunmaker.de, comeonwetten.de and mobilebet.de under its approved German licence.

Though having secured its GlüNeuRStv licence, ComeOn has yet to disclose whether it will launch a sportsbook property, accepting the terms of Germany’s conflicted sportsbook marketplace.

At present, Saxony Anhalt has chosen to serve as the GlüNeuRStv regime’s interim regulator, as the state’s executive proceeds to establish Glücksspielbehörde (GGL) – German gambling’s new federal regulatory authority by the end of 2022.

ComeOn joins 35 foreign and domestic operators that have been granted GlüNeuRStv sports betting licences.
