The Most Exciting eSports Teams in the Game Right Now

Right now, at the eSports World Cup, we’re watching some of the world’s best players put in the performances of their lives. In a packed schedule, the top teams in the sport are bringing us games of close calls and ingenious plays that are impossible to look away from.

eSports are difficult to dominate, not only because of the multiple majors in a year, but also because teams are constantly evolving. All the teams in this list have seen recent new signings take them to the next level. When a team comes along that enthrals the crowds while crushing their competition, it’s truly special. We’re going to be looking at teams that are doing just that, and talking about what makes them worth watching every single time they enter the arena.

Magical Matters—Team Liquid

At the moment, Team Liquid are putting on an unparalleled performance in the eSports World Cup that sees them sitting pretty at the top of the table as we head into the final games. Regardless of whether they can maintain that position when things come to a close on the 24th of August, they’ve been an exciting team to watch every step of the way. They’ve already become the first team to win three events in a single tournament.

The Best of Bachoore

Manuel Bachoore secured the team’s third title after clinching victory in FC Pro against Team Vitality’s Brice Masson, 5–3. The match was close, tense, and just about as exciting as it gets. It’s testament to Masson that he was able to push Bachoore, who was coming off a strong Championship run, all the way.

In the play-ins, Bachoore gave us a flavour of things to come, only dropping one game throughout. As things heated up in the next rounds, he still managed to claim the wins, if only narrowly. In the group stage semi-final, he beat fellow Dutchman Chris de Boer 5–4. The knockout stage quarterfinals were equally nail-biting as he beat Jonas Wirth (Jonny) 3–2. His run was a great example of how tumultuous FC Pro can be; with just one slip, he could have found himself missing the podium, but Bachoore was able to hold on to claim the title.

Magnus Carlsen—Valuable Checkmate

Team Liquid have another ace up their sleeves, with one of the best chess players to ever do it, Magnus Carlsen, on their roster. On the 1st of August, he added yet another trophy to his glittering haul after defeating Vitality’s Alireza Firouzja in the chess Grand Final. There was little doubt that Carlsen would dominate the event, but his performance surpassed even the greatest expectations as he only dropped one game.

We were truly watching a grandmaster at work throughout his run in the competition, where the gulf between the world number one and his competitors was obvious. Carlsen only needed two sets to best Firouzja and take home 1,000 Championship points for Team Liquid and £250,000 in prize money.

Could Team Liquid Win the 2025 World Cup? 

Team Liquid are already breaking records at this World Cup, winning three titles in the tournament (their third came from a 4–1 victory in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup). Their stellar wins see them top of the table with 4,200 points—500 ahead of closest rivals Team Falcon. Everything’s still to play for, though, with events including Crossfire, Counter Strike 2, and Street Fighter 6 still to come. One thing’s for certain, though, the excitement just keeps coming with Team Liquid.

Giving Us Life—Team Vitality

Team Vitality is easily one of the most exciting teams you can watch right now. I don’t think their current third-place position in the Club Championship ranking really reflects just how irresistible they’ve been.

The team was also incredibly dominant at the BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 event, where they won their fifth consecutive trophy in 25 undefeated games. It also saw them overtake Team Liquid’s 21-game winning streak to have the second-most wins in a row.

Talent on Talent

Vitality have acquired some major talent recently, including the world number one in Counter Strike, Estonia’s Robin Kool (Ropz). As I mentioned a little earlier, the Counter Strike 2 competition is still to come in the eSports World Cup. Kool’s ranking and crushing dominance in the sport make him a favourite to take home some much-needed points for Team Vitality.

Kool will also be competing alongside his teammate, another big hitter for Vitality, Mathieu Herbaut (ZywoO). Also a top player in Counter Strike, Herbaut will undeniably boost Vitality’s chances of scooping up the Counter Strike 2 win.

How are Vitality Doing at the World Cup?

This year’s World Cup has been a little disappointing so far for Team Vitality, especially considering their dominance earlier in the year. They’ve only won one event so far, the Women’s Invitational Event, where they put in a thrilling, powerful display. I’ve rarely watched a final with such a clear winner as they crushed Gaimin Gladiators 4–0.

In the rest of their events, though, they haven’t quite brought the same fire. They did manage to claim a couple of third place finishes in Rennsport and Free Fire, earning them 500 points each. Brice Masson’s defeat against Liquid’s Bachoore saw them boosted by 750 points, but in three games, they’ve completely failed to score.

Although they haven’t quite lived up to the hype yet, it’s important to remember that some of Vitality’s strongest games are still to come, and the distance between them and first-place Liquid is just over 1000 points.

Team Falcons Fly

Team Falcons have really been flying at this year’s World Cup, and they currently sit in second place, just 500 points behind the leading Liquid. It’s not a place Falcons have been unfamiliar with this year; they’ve been playing second fiddle to Vitality’s first chair for much of the year (although this time, it’s to Liquid).

Regardless of where they find themselves at the end of their home tournament, I’ve found their games hard to look away from. Falcons started off strong, claiming second place in the Dota 2 event behind Team Spirit. Their first two matches in the event were a display of utter dominance, and they won both 2–0.

It reminded me of their competition-winning games in this year’s ALGS Open, where they bested 160 teams to claim the title and £1 million in prize money. The same event also saw their captain, Phillip Dosen (ImperialHal), win the MVP honour for his dominance in Apex Legends. While the event appeared in the 2024 eSports World Cup, it won’t make a reappearance this year, leaving the Falcons down one of their best players.

That Falcons Flair

It could easily still be the Falcons’ year in terms of the Club Championship ranking, but there are already great things on the horizon regardless. On the 7th of August, the team announced they signed EA FC player Anders Vejrgang, one of the best players in the game. Although he won’t be able to play in this year’s World Cup, Verjrgang will certainly be bringing that Falcons flair when he begins playing for the team.

Vejrgang won this year’s FC Pro Open and came second in the eChampions League, as well as the virtual Bundesliga. However, his performance in the FC Pro at this World Championship was slightly disappointing; he finished 16th. It might have been the thoughts of his imminent transfer or just that his other opponents got the best of him this time around, but it was an off-colour performance for a golden player. The Falcons will be hoping they can help Vejrgang return to form and fly the nest in his next tournament.
