Russia not to block YouTube gambling ads

The Russian government has declared that it cannot force international online portals such as YouTube to follow the country’s advertising rules.
Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has acknowledged this when its attention was invited to a surge gambling ad videos appear on YouTube. The agency categorically stated that its advertising rules will not be applied to international websites. According to the government rules, FAS is authorised to regulate only Russian domains (.ru, .su and .рф).
The Internet Video Association (IVA) had approached FAS with the complaint that Russian-language videos are promoting casinos on YouTube.
Nonetheless, the FAS said it will submit a “request” to the website in order to prevent prohibited services to be advertised in Russia.
In addition to FAS’ request, telecom watchdog Roskomnadzor has recently announced it has blocked over 250 “pirate online cinemas and torrent trackers” which used “illegal online casino ads and bookmakers.”
The body has been branded as “ineffective” censorship-wise but still bans over 1500 gambling-related websites and has received over 86,000 complaints to block others during the first quarter.
