Melco to employ 20,000 workers in proposed Japan IR

Lawrence Ho, CEO of Melco Resorts and Entertainment, has pledged that his company would employ up to 20,000 people in proposed integrated resort in the Japan, if its bid is approved. He added that during the first phase, a majority of the employees will be foreign nationals.
He said that the move will depend on the final regulations of the new immigration law, which is part of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s reform package which includes labour immigration.
As per the new law, foreign employees in 14 industries inclusive of hotels, restaurants and construction.
“The bulk of employees will be Japanese [eventually]. But at the same time it is unrealistic to say so from the beginning, as the industry does not still exist in Japan,” Mr. Ho said.
