Dutch Gaming Authority slaps €350k penalty
The Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit has slapped a fine of €350,000 on CyberRock Entertainment and Honeydew Trading within.
These companies were found to have offered games of chance to Dutch customers through various websites, mainly play2wincasino.com and supremeplay.com.
Both the websites are “almost entirely” Dutch, the Kansspelautoriteit said, while other sites change after player log-in from English to Dutch. CyberRock and Honeydew work together, with CyberRock the sole shareholder of Honeydew.
René Jansen, chairman of the board of directors of the KSA, said: “Many Dutch people do not know that online gambling in the Netherlands is illegal. Protecting consumers is an important objective of the KSA, in addition to preventing gambling addiction and combating illegality.
“Gambling with an illegal provider implies that the consumer is not protected. He is not sure of a fair game. There is also no control of participation by vulnerable groups, such as minors.”
Online games of chance are not currently permitted under current Dutch legislation and the KSA focuses its enforcement efforts on suppliers focusing on Dutch customers.
