Cyprus Bans Daytime Gambling Adverts

The Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission has released a new set of rules for gambling advertisements by land-based casinos. The gambling regulators said that the new measures are introduced to “ensure gambling activities are carried out in a socially responsible manner.”
There are four land-based casinos operating in Cyprus including a temporary casino in Limassol and three satellite casinos in Nicosia, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. All these casinos are operated by Integrated Casino Resorts (Cyprus) Ltd.
According to the new advertising rules, casino adverts must not air on republic television and radio stations between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm. Moreover, when casino ads are broadcast between 11 pm and 6:00 am, they must not be aired during or immediately prior to or after children’s programs or programs that are likely to be of interest to children.
The new rules also require that casino adverts should explicitly have a message to promote responsible gambling and that it should be “in the same language and at the same speed as the other content.”
