Compliance Updates
Denmark to Allow Online Gambling Services to Use IT Equipment from Any Country
In a clear-cut shift from its protective policies, Spillemyndigheden, the Gambling Authority of Denmark, has amended the regulations for online licensees specifically regarding the use of IT equipment.
According to the new regulation, online gaming services can now use IT equipment originated in any country. Previously, Danish regulations stipulated that the IT equipment used by online service providers must have been originated in Denmark. The new amendment, which came into force on May 30, strikes down this constraint.
The IT equipment would still need to inspected and approved by the Danish Gambling Authority before it can begin to offer betting and games to Danes.
The new amendment could pave the way for opening up of Denmark’s online gambling sector, as more operators would be ready to accept the new regulations.
