ATG Receives Warning from Swedish Gambling Regulator
Swedish state-owned racing operator AB Trav Galopp (ATG) has received a warning from the Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen for breaching the country’s sports betting rules.
According to the regulator, ATG had accepted bets on a horse ridden by a jockey who was under the age of 18 at the time of the race. The incident occurred at Sundbyholm’s trotting track, Eskilstuna, on January 12.
“It was an isolated event and we reported ourselves when it came to our knowledge. After the incident, both we and our owners Svensk Travsport have introduced new control systems so that this cannot happen again,” Nicklas Jonsson, Head of Horse Betting at ATG, said.
In its decision, the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate writes: “In the present case, ATG has offered betting on a horse ridden by a rider who at the time was under 18 years of age. There is no disagreement between Spelinspektionen and ATG about these conditions. ”
It is not permitted to offer betting on individual achievements for a participant in a match, competition or tournament if he is under 18 years of age.
The current infringement, which concerns a single case, took place less than two weeks after the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate’s regulations – which constitute a completely new set of rules – came into force.
It also appears from the investigation in the case that ATG at the time of the infringement was in the implementation phase of routines aimed at ensuring that minors are not subject to betting.
