India: 89 Booked for Gambling in Paldi

As many as 89 people were booked by the Ahmedabad police late Monday night for gambling in Paldi area of Ahmedabad with more than Rs 1.58 crore of muddamal (property seized in connection with a criminal case) and cash.
“The people got together for a wedding engagement ceremony to be held Tuesday. As a part of the celebration, they were gambling in two flats of Laxmi Niwas near Pritamnagar akhada in Paldi, and were caught while patrolling,” said BG Chetariya, the inspector at Ellisbridge police station.
A huge crowd gathered outside the Ellisbridge police station even as the police probe was on.
According to an official release, the 89 booked are from the Navrangpura and Pritamnagar areas. “…about Rs 3.74 lakh was confiscated from them. Apart from this, 98 phones worth Rs 29.38 lakh, 35 two-wheelers and 18 cars have been seized worth about Rs 1.26 crore,” the note stated.
