Swedish Gambling Regulator Imposes SEK4M Fine on Betfair

The Swedish gambling regulator has ordered Betfair to pay a penalty fee of SEK4m for offering betting on Under-21s football matches.
Spelinspektionen said the violation, which breaks regulations around betting on only the top four leagues in Sweden, was “serious” and “occurred systematically”.
Betfair has also received a warning from the regulator after its investigation found that it offered betting on a total of 148 U21 Allsvenskan matches during 2021 and 2022.
Swedish customers spent a total of SEK1.1m on betting on 139 of the matches, with Betfair earning SEK5354 in revenue.
Betfair said in response that it has implemented measures to ensure such breaches of the regulations do not happen again, including blocking all betting on Swedish football except for the top two leagues.
