iGAMING INDUSTRY APPEAL FOR ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA HURRICANE RELIEF
“The country of Antigua and Barbuda has been a pioneering partner to the i-gaming industry since the mid-90s as one of the first licensing jurisdictions.
The island of Barbuda was devastated by Hurricane Irma. The government estimates that 95% of the structures have been destroyed or damaged and the infrastructure including water pumps, electricity and communications were all destroyed so the island is currently uninhabitable and will need to be rebuilt.
Unlike other Caribbean islands which are protectorates and may receive support from larger countries, Antigua and Barbuda is an independent country (although still part of the Commonwealth). It will need to rely on global giving to help support the rebuilding of the island which 1,600 Barbudans have called home over past 300+ years.
Antigua suffered no damage and is fully functioning. As such the island is taking the lead on disaster recovery for its sister island. Currently, everyone has been evacuated to Antigua where about 300 Barbudan residents are still in shelters while the rest are situated with Antiguans who have opened their homes during this rebuilding process.
Please consider opening your hearts and supporting this country which has always supported our industry. Now, it’s time to reciprocate. Antigua and Barbuda has always stood up for the gaming operators and supported the industry since the 1990’s. This is our chance to give back and even double up on our contribution.”
