Cell C launches mobile sports gambling service with Clickabet
South African mobile operator Cell C has announced a partnership with sports betting website Clickabet, to offer mobile sports gambling.
The Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) Gambling Outlook Report (2014-2018) indicates that the total market revenue for sports betting in South Africa is ZAR 36 billion in 2017, of which approximately ZAR 2 billion is the online share. Clickabet was started by former Altech CEO Craig Venter in 2016.
At present, only soccer, cricket and tennis are available to bet on through the new mobile service, but more sports will be added in the coming weeks, the group said. It will appear in 60 stores in Gauteng as part of a trial phase before being phased in nationally in the coming months.
Cell C said it will match customers’ first deposit rand-for-rand, up to ZAR 2,000. Cell C customers can sign up for the service by going into a Cell C store with their FICA documentation, and can activate a Clickabet prepaid debit card. The card costs ZAR 75, and users will receive ZAR 25 betting credit.
