Texas in favor of a new sports betting law
The Attorney General of Texas expressed that he’s in favor of the state’s right to decide whether to allow sports betting or not.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has publicly declared that he’s against the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) that prohibits the majority of the states in the US to offer sports betting.
“PASPA is unconstitutional and tramples on state sovereignty. By ending PASPA, states can rightfully decide whether they want regulated sports betting or not,” said Paxton in a statement published by the American Sports Betting Coalition (ASBC). Whilst the Attorney General usually sides with Trump administration, he has certainly opposed the current President of the United States, which is in favor of PASPA.
New Jersey’s case against PASPA is getting closer to its oral hearings that will take place on December 4. Last month, Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, criticised those who are against it with no actual reasons.
Christie is demanding the same conditions for New Jersey than the ones Nevada enjoyed for decades: “The hypocrisy is just so overwhelming. They say because we have the Giants and the Jets and the Devils that somehow we shouldn’t be allowed to have gambling here because somehow it will threaten the integrity of the game. Well, you kidding? How isn’t it threatening the integrity of the game in Las Vegas for the NHL and the NFL?”
