Macau to pass bill against new casinos

The outline of a bill prohibiting new gaming projects being fostered on newly reclaimed land in Macau has been passed in the legislature.
Macau is facing a major hindrance regarding new gaming projects as the legislature has passed the outline of a bill that ensures the prevention of new developments or the execution of the same on newly reclaimed land. The Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan introduced the bill and it covers five land reclamation projects already in the course of development.
A standing committee in the Legislative Assembly is established to review the bill more precisely prior the final version is sent for voting in a plenary session.
The bill intends to unravel a novel framework for regulating Macau’s demarcated waters which comprise of the 85 square kilometres of water surrounding Macau over which the Chinese State Council empowered the local government to administer in December 2015.
If passed, the bill could make difficult the potential arrival of new international companies to the Special Administrative Region of China but that probably would not affect its already thriving gaming industry.
