Wynn scandal may impact the US project
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will scrutinise the Wynn Boston Harbor project with respect to the accusations made against Steve Wynn.
Casino mogul Steve Wynn was alleged of sexual misconduct lately, the scandal put demand on him to step down from the post of Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee. However, it could also impact his private business, as the Massachusetts Gaming Commission revealed it will review the Wynn Boston Harbor project, proposed to be open in 2019.
Releasing a statement the regulatory body confirmed that it is “aware of – and is taking very seriously – the troubling allegations detailed in the Wall Street Journal article,” adding to which they said: “The suitability and integrity of our gaming licensees is of the utmost importance, and ensuring that suitability is an active and ongoing process. Consequently, the MGC’s Investigations and Enforcement Bureau will conduct a regulatory review of this matter to determine the appropriate next steps.”
Brendan Moss, a spokesman for Governor Charlie Baker further revealed that he’s “deeply disturbed” and said: “This administration has a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment and expects the Commonwealth’s employers to create a safe work environment for all employees where reporting harassment of any kind is encouraged and properly addressed.”
Steve Wynn was accused of sexual misconduct by several employees but firmly denied these allegations: “The idea that I ever assaulted any woman is preposterous (…) We find ourselves in a world where people can make allegations, regardless of the truth, and a person is left with the choice of weathering insulting publicity or engaging in multi-year lawsuits. It is deplorable for anyone to find themselves in this situation.”
The Wynn Boston Harbor resort casino is set to open on the banks of the Mystic River in the Boston suburb Everett. The US$2 billion project began construction in 2016 and is currently set to open in the summer of 2019.
