Police destroy 3197 illegal gambling machines in George Town

A total of 3,197 simulator machines and computers worth RM4.5 million used for gambling activities in Penang (Malaysia) were disposed of by police today.
Penang police chief Dato A. Thaiveegan said the items were seized in police operations dubbed “Ops Dadu” from 2015 to 2017.
“The items were seized in 514 successful raids carried out in the state,” he said during a press conference after the gambling machines were disposed of at the marine police base in Batu Uban.
Thaiveegan said the operations also resulted in the arrest of 988 suspects.
He said police also confiscated a total of RM151,041 in cash.
The jackpot machines, computers and laptops were disposed of after 307 cases were brought to court.
Thaiveegan said the disposal was in accordance with Section 16 of the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953.
He also warned owners of gambling dens that police will continue to monitor illegal gambling activities on a daily basis and continue the war against all forms of gambling activities.
Meanwhile, Thaiveegan told theSun that police are still waiting for the date of form two student M.Vasanthapiriya’s inquest.
He said police have completed their investigations and sent their report to the state prosecutor’s office.
“We will let the media know when we get the date,” he said.
