New South Wales seeks residents opinion over gaming taxes and iGaming

New South Wales brings the residents on board as they are seeking advice from the citizens on potential regulation relating to gaming taxes and iGaming. According to the local media, the government of New South Wales asked the public to come up with their opinion on the discourse that whether the Australian state should update its wagering taxes to target online gaming?
As of now, the New South Wales authorities have not established a tax related to online sports betting operations and iGaming platform. Currently, wagering taxes on racing and sports betting are levied solely at the physical point of sale.
Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet said in a statement:“Other states and territories have changed the way they tax wagering following the rise of online betting, which is something we are also considering here in NSW. At this stage, we want to get a better understanding of how such a change would operate and whether it is the right move for NSW, so we want all interested parties to have a say.”
Moreover, New South Wales lawmakers have proposed new laws in order to counter potential problem gambling caused by current regulations. Under the gambling reform, the number of poker machines (pokies) in pubs and clubs would be restricted.
