Malta’s blockchain industry is set to scale new heights
Malta will be hosting the Delta Summit, the official Blockchain event of the island from October 3 to 5 later this year.
Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri said: “Malta will be the epicentre of the Blockchain industry.” He was talking in a fireside chat with the American venture investor Tim Draper and Angel Labs founder Tugce Ergul, moderated by Abdalla Kablan. “Be part of the Blockchain island.”
Mr Schembri said the government has made available three major bills to the industry online. These are the Malta Digital Innovation Authority Bill, the Virtual Financial Asset Bill, and the Innovation Technological Services Arrangements Bill. “This puts Malta a step away from becoming the first world jurisdiction to regulate this sector.”
“This is my first time in the Blockchain Island,” said California billionaire Tim Draper, owner of Draper Associates. “Congratulations for the early start and the big lead on other countries. By setting up the regulator you are putting Malta at the top of the list.”
Through a video message, Binance CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao, who will be present for the October summit, expressed his reasons for choosing Malta as headquarters, saying it had some of the most forward-thinking leaders. And through another video message, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat invited all those in the blockchain industry and the digital world to be in Malta for the Delta Summit.
“We would like you to come and learn more about the country’s efforts in being trailblazers in this field.”
The Delta Summit has also secured Bloomberg as the official media partner which will be covering the event. Major players such as Binance, Okex , Bitfury, Monaco, Cubits, and others have lined up to sponsor the event and 1000–1500 attendees are expected.
