Svenska Spel appoints Patrik Hofbauer as new CEO
Svenska Spel, the state-owned gambling regulator in Sweden, has appointed Patrik Hofbauer as its new CEO. The outgoing CEO Lennart Käll resigned to focus on his own business and board assignments. The 49-year-old Hofbauer is currently the CEO of Telenor Sweden. He will assume charge at Svenska Spel by mid-December 2018.
Patrik Hofbauer has held senior positions in several companies such as Telenor Broadcast, Canal Digital, NEC Scandinavia and Clear Channel. He has also been a professional ice hockey goalkeeper for around 10 years, in which period he had played in Örebro, Björklöven and Djurgården.
“I am pleased to welcome Patrik Hofbauer to Svenska Spel. His experiences from both the business community and the sporting movement will be very valuable, especially given that Svenska Spel faces an exciting time with the new gaming legislation that will come into effect at the turn of the year. I am convinced that Patrik Hofbauer is the right person to lead the company on the new gaming market,“ says Erik Strand, chairman of Svenska Spel.
“Svenska Spel has a strong position, a strong brand and faces exciting challenges through the new gaming legislation. I like the relationship between business and sport that places me warm at heart. Now I look forward to leading the company into the next phase with the employees at Svenska Spel,“ says Patrik Hofbauer.
Svenska Spel’s current CEO, Lennart Käll, will leave 19 July. During the period until Patrik Hofbauer joins, the Board has appointed Svenska Spel’s current CFO and vice president Marie Loob as acting CEO.
