Galaxy confident of building a casino in Boracay, despite president’s opposition

Galaxy Entertainment Group, the Hong Kong-based casino company, is confident of building a casino facility in the island of Boracay, despite Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s vocal opposition to gambling. The president has already tried to halt two new casinos in 2018 alone. The Philippine government has closed all the gambling facilities in the island of Boracay in a recent clean-up operation following the president’s orders.
Duterte is firm on his stance of casino ban in the island. However, Galaxy Entertainment Group is confident about the change in policy by the on this topic.
Francis Lui Yiu Tung, vice-chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, said during a company press conference in Hong Kong that Galaxy actually shares the same vision as the president when it comes to Boracay’s environmental issues.
“I hope that we would be able to work with our local partners to explain to the Philippine authorities that their vision is the same as ours,” the executive stated. “Boracay is unique. To find another beautiful island with an international airport, close to China and Macau; there aren’t any, so I still prefer Boracay,” said Mr Lui.
