West Virginia grosses $600k in the first week of sports betting
West Virginia, which recently allowed legal sports betting in the state, has grossed more than US$600k in the first week.
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, which kicked off legal sports betting in the state, has reported that gamblers bet more than US$600k in the first week of activity.
Erich Zimny, Vice President of Racing Operations and Sports at Charles Town, said that operations “are going well,” and that the past weekend had college football as the biggest sport attraction. Zimny explained that the West Virginia vs. Tennessee matchup generated high interest at the casino.
The casino that is located only an hour away from Washington offers wagering on football, basketball, soccer, baseball, golf, tennis, hockey, auto racing, boxing, MMA and cycling, among other sports.
The Charles Town venue was the first casino licensed to offer sports betting in the state, and had to install the necessary software and train employees before it was cleared to start sports betting operations.
