Russian telecom regulator continues blocking gambling websites
Roskomnadzor, the telecommunications regulator in Russia, has reportedly blocked the domains of a whopping 14,500 online gambling websites in August.
In Russia, apart from the 15 licensed betting operators, there have been countless external operators that offer the sports betting facility through their websites. The surge of activity of such websites has forced the regulator to trigger action and preventative measures against them.
In online gambling domain blocks alone, Roskomnadzor has this year (to end August) acted against more than 76,000 domains, an almost 270 percent increase on the whole of 2017, with four months of 2018 yet to pass.
