Police arrests three persons for Illegal Gambling

North Little Rock (Arkansas) Police nabbed three co-workers for running an illegal gambling operation at a gas station. The police authorities did not provide further details. But many customers who visit the gas station frequently said they were not surprised.
“I’m not surprised,” said Dan Murchison, an occasional customer who said he did not gamble there. “Seems like they’re having a little bit of fun. I don’t see where anybody’s killed anybody. If they want to gamble, they should be able to gamble. Like I don’t smoke. But if they want to smoke, it’s their right to do so.”
However, several regulars who live in the area claim the owner was bringing in a lot of money and are glad to see the machines gone.
Police arrested the owner, 49-year-old Athar Hamed Anjum and two clerks, 57-year-old Diorinda Silber and 25-year-old Saleem Raja Shaik, for keeping a gambling house, which is a felony.
While they move through the judicial system, the gas station is still running. We reached out to Valero’s corporate office but have yet to hear back.
The enforcement division of the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control confiscates gambling machines from gas stations and other establishments that have liquor licenses. Spokesperson Scott Hardin said the agency was not involved in this case because the Valero recently surrendered its alcohol permit.
