Cordish announces takeover of Philadelphia casino project
The Cordish Companies, a privately held company in the field of entertainment and gambling based in Maryland, has announced that it is going to take over the long-delayed project for a second casino in Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board issued a license in 2014 to develop a gaming venue in Philadelphia to join venture between Cordish and Greenwood Gaming. Now Cordish has announced that it is parting ways with Greenwood, and going it alone to construct the gaming facility.
Joe Weinberg, managing member of Stadium Casino Baltimore Investors LLC., said: “We at Cordish are excited to now immediately get to work on constructing and opening two first-class casinos for Pennsylvania, which will create thousands of new, quality jobs for local residents, and hundreds of millions of dollars in new taxes for the commonwealth.”
