Racing Post launch new downloadable betting shop version
Racing Post recently launched a new QR code system that allows customers in betting shops to download the daily newspaper for free to their mobile devices. The new initiative was launched post-lockdown to support high street betting shops increase footfall to their shops and offer customers a chance to read the paper in a safe manner.
Each day the regular betting shop display edition which is pinned to the wall of nearly 8000 betting shops in the UK and Ireland will have a unique QR code at the front of it. Once the customer scans the QR code it then takes them to the landing page to read today’s newspaper and help them make an informed betting decision.
This is the latest in a line of retail improvements provided by Racing Post following last months announcement they would be rolling out new interactive screens for Toals bookmakers in the UK.
Discussing the new QR codes and the popularity of the downloads, Spotlight Sports Group Retail Director, Alan Pepperell said:
‘Post-lockdown we know bookmakers want to get as many punters in their shops in a controlled and safe environment. We also know most visitors enjoy sitting and reading the paper before making their betting decisions for the day. We decided to trial the QR codes to help customers who may not want to read the paper in the shop but can now do so on their mobile device.
Pepperell continued: ‘We’ve seen from the data that this has been a popular initiative and we know the appetite for the paper never goes away. However, in the current climate, we understand if customers are apprehensive about picking up a newspaper and as we’ve seen in other high street shops and restaurants the QR codes are a simple way of getting a digital version to the user. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure we deliver the best experience in shops in the safest way possible.’
