Virtual Reality Awards Launched!
Finnish Virtual Reality games publisher VRKiwi and the Game Development World Championship (GDWC) have come together to create a Virtual Reality Awards as a part of the Game Development World Championship 2021.
The competition titled “VR Awards” is now open for entries, and allows VR Games in different stages of development to compete in two different categories: “Best VR Game” for VR Games launching during 2021-2022, and “Best VR Prototype” for early development phase prototypes.
VR Awards bring more focus to virtual reality games allowing developers to show their skills and ideas in the fast-growing field and be recognized in the crowded games market.
“We’re super excited to work with VRKiwi on this. Their expertise in VR Games and VR Development helps us give VR games the attention they deserve.” — Olli Mäntylä, GDWC Manager
“There’s already a ton of potential for varying VR game concepts enabled by the industry’s development over the recent years, and the potential seems to be growing by every year as the tech improves. By sponsoring this competition we want to make sure that all the unique game projects get their deserved attention. The best will be offered a chance to have their game become commercially successful over the biggest VR platforms that there is. Nevertheless, the hardware manufacturers, platforms, and VR players alike will closely observe the event, so it should be good visibility for many participants despite the final rank in the competition.” — Jani Kaipainen, Head of VR Publishing in VRKiwi.
Games in both categories can earn a wide range of rewards, including VR development hardware, with the main reward being a publishing deal from VRKiwi to the Winning game! The prototype category winner will also receive mentoring and investment opportunities to turn their prototype into a fully realized game release.
Any VR game and VR-capable game taking part in the GDWC 2021 can enroll in the VR Awards, and participation is completely free. VR Awards can be found at the GDWC website: https://thegdwc.com/vr-awards
