Only Two Operators Remain in Yokohama IR Race
The Japanese prefecture Yokohama has announced that only two bidders remain in the final stage of its bidding process for integrated resorts (IR).
The names of the bidders have not been disclosed, but Genting Singapore and Melco Resorts are reportedly the remaining bidders in the race.
There were five bidders till recently. Galaxy Entertainment and Sega Sammy withdrew from the race.
Shotoku, a company based in Yokohoma, was rejected by the government, as it turned out that the company did not possess minimum requirements for a bidder.
The fate of the remaining bidders – both Asian companies: Genting and Melco – will actually be decided by the people. The mayor election of the city is scheduled on August 22, which is basically fought between the pro-IR and anti-IR groups. The eventual bid will take place depending on who will win the mayoral battle.
