From 1st October 2021, the legal remote gambling arena in the Netherlands will officially be opened up, with the Dutch government currently reviewing and approving license applications from interested parties. This will immediately increase interest in the online gambling arena in the country, which is already on the rise. From 1st April 2021, online gambling was no longer illegal in the Netherlands, modernising the traditional gambling industry, and opening up a whole new avenue for both businesses and consumers alike. For those new to the relatively new market, online casino reviews will provide a valuable resource, enabling new gamblers to make calculated decisions about which casino will be best for them: online reviews provide an impartial opinion about the best online casinos based on the bonuses available, the types of games on offer, and other quality marks. Here’s everything you need to know about the remote gambling industry in the Netherlands:

Official Change of Stance

The Dutch Gambling Authority, which is based in The Hague, is an independent regulatory organisation which is in control of the changes to the Dutch gambling regulations, as well as vetting and issuing licences to online gambling organisations. This body is in control of ensuring that all legally registered online casinos in the Netherlands are both safe and secure. If you’re unsure whether the Dutch-based casino website you want to play at is safe and legitimate then either the regulatory body website, or an independent online casino review website should be your first port of call: A casino has a duty of care to ensure that all of its players are entering a secure environment and can enter their financial and personal information safelty. These websites will be able to inform you whether this criteria is being adhered to.

Safety is often at the forefront of consumers mind when they are visiting a new online casino environment, so the peace of mind provided by these checks is vital.

What the New Gambling Regulations Mean for Consumers

Whilst being able to operate legally within the Dutch online environment is a seismic and monumental shift for businesses within the online gambling sector in the region, will these legal changes have a big impact on the average Dutch consumer? In brief, yes! Dutch consumers will be afforded much more legal protection in the unlikely event that they feel they have been treated unfairly by an online casino: because the industry will now be officially regulated, they will also have more confidence in the websites that they are using. What’s more, unlike other unoffical (or unregulated) casinos that Dutch consumers may have access to via the freedom of the internet, the new official and legal Dutch online casinos will have to be available (either fully or partially) in the Dutch language, making it much easier for many consumers who aren’t bilingual to immerse themselves in the game play.

Online gambling is going to change in the Netherlands, and it’s going to change quickly. These changes are likely to be for the best, both for the businesses who hoped for them, and for the consumers who will ultimately benefit.
