Gaming nostalgia is at an all-time high, from PS1 games being remastered for newer consoles. To the trend of modern games with retro game aesthetics, gamers are loving all things throwback. And what could be more nostalgic than the Gameboy?
With the news that Nintendo may be bringing a number of original Gameboy titles to Nintendo Switch Online, RantCasino.com wanted to find out which titles gamers are still obsessed with in 2021. Whilst some Gameboy classics get sequels and revamps, nothing can hold a candle to the true originals. To find out which games are getting the most love they took SEMrush to discover which games people are searching for the most.

Pokémon is the clear fan favorite with games from the franchise taking up six of the top ten spots.
Of all games in the study, the classic Pokémon Red came out on top with an impressive 5,400 monthly searches on average. As of September 2021, players can choose from all three Pokémon Red starters in the new Switch-only Pokémon Unite.
In joint second are Pokémon Yellow which came out in 1998 and Pokémon Crystal which came out in the year 2000. Both games receive an average of 4,400 searches every month.
Taking the third spot is Pokémon Gold which was one of the first installments of the second generation of the Pokémon game series. This game is searched for on average 2,900 times each month.
Rounding off the top five is another tie. This time between Pokémon Silver, which came out in 1999, and Super Mario Land which came out ten years earlier in 1989. Both games receive an average of 1,900 searches each month.
