EGBA Joins Other Leading Trade Associations to Call for a Workable, Balanced and Future-proof EU Digital Services Act

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has joined 15 other leading European trade associations – representing startups, SMEs, technology, advertising, digital and media organisations – to call upon Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to ensure that the proposed EU Digital Services Act (DSA) remains a workable, balanced and future-proof legislation.
In a joint letter, the associations outline a number of key recommendations for MEPs to consider, including:
- Maintaining the DSA’s horizontal approach as originally proposed by the European Commission. Vertical and sector-specific initiatives can then later be added where needed.
- Preserving and building on the cornerstones of the e-Commerce Directive such as the country of origin principle, the ban on general monitoring and the conditional liability exemption for hosting providers.
- Building a workable, balanced, future-proof DSA. The cost of compliance with the DSA must not turn into a market entry barrier for the smallest providers and hinder them from launching and scaling up in the EU Single Market.
- Ensuring consistency with the EU’s existing legal framework (e.g. data protection, consumer protection, platform laws).
- Carefully assessing the impact of any measures on targeted advertising, before proposing severe restrictions or bans.
