Mobile game developer, Playwind Games, today announced that it has closed a $4m funding round led by leading global game developer and publisher, Garena, creator of global mobile hit Free Fire, the most downloaded mobile game in the world for three years running, according to App Annie.
The funding will support Playwindâs future growth as it develops a new generation of social-first games for the casual mobile market.
Playwind Games was founded at the end of 2020 by Jack Tang, previously CEO and founder of Funky Panda Games. Tang has over a decadeâs experience working on social mobile games, where he worked on titles such as Sims Social, Simcity Social and Pet Society in previous positions at Electronic Arts and Playfish.
He went on to found the mobile game studio Funky Panda Games, whose first release, Monster Mountain, was awarded âBest New RPGâ in the 2016 TIGA Awards.
Jack Tang, CEO and founder of Playwind Games, says:
âPlaywind Games was founded to bring happiness to players by letting them play and socialise together in exciting new worlds. This investment will support our future growth as we hire the next generation of talent as part of our efforts to become one of the best casual and social game creators in the mobile market.
âMore importantly, this investment comes from a respected industry figure the entire team at Playwind has a tremendous amount of respect for, and weâre excited to work alongside Garena, who share our belief that mobile games are better when we play together.â
