GAMSTOP marks a successful second annual ‘self-exclusion awareness day’
Football clubs from all four divisions of the professional game in England supported GAMSTOP’s second annual self-exclusion awareness day.
GAMSTOP, the UK’s independent self-exclusion scheme, launched #TakeBackControl2023 to raise awareness of the service across social media channels, calling on the support of its partners in football and other sports.
More than 400,000 consumers have registered with GAMSTOP since its inception in 2018 and recent data revealed a 30% increase in sign-ups amongst 16-24-year-olds in the first half of the year.
Football Clubs are uniquely placed to reach this target audience and amongst those supporting #TakeBackControl2023 were famous names such as Crystal Palace, QPR, Bolton Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra. In Scotland, Ayr United and Livingston FC supported self-exclusion day whilst Welsh Premier League Champions, The New Saints FC, also shared GAMSTOP assets. GAMSTOP is also in discussions with a Premier League Club to provide gambling awareness workshops.
Other sports organisations taking part included the Professional Darts Players Association and the Professional Players Federation. Across all channels, the social media activation reached more than 5 million users with more than 50,000 views on X (formerly known as Twitter). The social media posts provided essential information about registering with GAMSTOP, which is a free-to-use service.
Fiona Palmer, CEO of GAMSTOP, said: “Everyone at GAMSTOP is incredibly grateful to the football Clubs and sports organisations who supported our second self-exclusion awareness day, and we were delighted to welcome new partners this year. Sports fans are a key demographic for us, so we know how important how they are in reaching these audiences through their own social media channels”.
