2023-24 Premier League: Who Will Survive the Dreaded Drop?

Many eyes will be on the Premier League title battle in the 2023-24 season, though the relegation dogfight could be a thriller. The scrap to avoid the drop will be exciting for the neutrals but nail-biting for the clubs involved.
Last Year’s Relegation Battle
With so much money involved at the top level of English football these days, some clubs simply cannot afford to be relegated. Last season, Leeds United, Leicester City, and Southampton dropped out of the top tier. In general, football betting is huge, and there are several sportsbooks to choose from. Sportingtech provides gaming operators with matchless levels of customization and flexibility. The relegation battle is covered along with over 1,000 betting markets.
Last season’s battle was a fascinating one. Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth avoided an instant return to the EFL Championship, while West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers survived comfortably in the end.
As for Everton, they survived the drop by the skin of their teeth, as this ESPN article shows. On the final day of the season, a 1-0 home win over Bournemouth was enough to keep the Toffees in the Premier League.
The Saints finished rock bottom of the table, ending their 11-year stay in the top flight. Leeds finished second from bottom on 31 points. Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021. However, the Foxes had a dreadful 2022-23 EPL season and were relegated to the Championship.
Who Are the Relegation Candidates This Season?
Naturally, the three promoted teams have been tipped to struggle this season. Burnley were the top dogs in the Championship last term, with Vincent Kompany’s men winning the league on 101 points.
Sheffield United took second and the final automatic promotion place. The Blades finished ten points behind the Clarets, but 11 points clear of third position.
The final promotion spot went to Luton Town. The Hatters kicked on under Rob Edwards after Nathan Jones’ departure, and they finished third and went on to beat Sunderland and Coventry City in the Championship play-offs.
All three promoted clubs have found the step up to the Premier League tough so far. As BBC reports, Sheffield United have already lost 8-0 at home this term. The three teams are in and around the bottom three heading into the second international break of the season.
Bournemouth defied the odds to stay in the top tier last term. However, they parted ways with Gary O’Neil, who subsequently took over at Wolves. Both teams are expected to be in the relegation picture this term.
Nottingham Forest have made a solid start under the popular Steve Cooper, while the likes of Brentford, Fulham, and Crystal Palace should have enough to finish in the top half of the table.
As we slowly but surely approach the busy winter period in the Premier League, things are starting to heat up in the title race, the battle for European spots, and the scrap for survival.
For the teams loitering towards the bottom of the table, this stage is particularly gruelling. However, with the transfer window opening at the start of 2024, the teams involved have a chance to bolster their squads for the second half of the campaign.
Last year’s Premier League relegation fight went to the wire, and we could be in for a similar scenario this time around.
