Singular appoints Phil Garner as new Managing Director
Singular, an international software company, has appointed Phil Garner as the new Managing Director to lead the company’s next phase of growth as a technology provider for its parent Flutter Entertainment, the world’s leading online sports betting and iGaming operator. Phil Garner takes over from George Shamugia, a co-founder and Managing Director at Singular for over a decade, who will now remain active in the business as Chief Architect while continuing to support the leadership transition.
“We are thrilled to welcome Phil as the new Managing Director. His extensive industry experience and profound understanding of our products will support Singular in leveraging our technology to further drive growth to the whole Group and to provide an even better player experience for the brands we support,” says Darko Gacov, Singular’s co-founder and Director of Operations.
Phil Garner isn’t completely new to Singular, as he comes from PokerStars, a brand owned by Flutter Entertainment, and has previously worked closely with the Singular team on various projects. Formerly a Senior Director of Infrastructure and Platform Services, Phil Garner’s work at PokerStars has been instrumental in ensuring a successful cloud transformation journey to AWS. In the past, Phil Garner held tech leadership roles within the Flutter Group in Sports, PAM, and Payments.
Commenting on his appointment, Phil Garner said: “It is an honor to take on the role of Managing Director at Singular and build upon the foundational and continued success. Singular has tremendous potential in powering high-growth markets as part of the Flutter Group and I look forward to working closely with my team as we continue to deliver growth at an accelerated pace and reinforce Singular’s position as tech leader in the sports betting and gaming industry.”
Phil Garner highlights Singular’s opportunity for increased knowledge-sharing with larger Flutter brands, as well as to strengthen its ecosystem with assets from the Flutter Edge, the Group’s competitive advantage where it shares talent, technology, product, and capital across its global portfolio of brands. As he states, “The major focus will be to enable Singular to be part of the Flutter Edge and charge our capabilities in markets with high-growth potential.”
He adds: “I would like to express my gratitude to George Shamugia who played a pivotal role in the brand’s success throughout the years. I’m glad we will continue working together as we pursue our vision and grasp the new opportunities that lay ahead for the team and the business.”
