Casino.nl Duty of Care Report 2025 Results

- Significant Differences in Player Protection (Duty of Care) Across Online Casinos
- Not All Operators Meet Legal Requirements ● Casino.nl Offers Recommendations
Casino.nl has published the second edition of its annual Duty of Care Research, which examines how legal Dutch online gambling providers fulfill their legal and societal responsibility to prevent gambling addiction, known as the duty of care.
The report reveals considerable discrepancies in transparency, education, preventative measures, and interventions among operators.
While providers comply with most (but not all) basic legal requirements, the research highlights significant room for improvement. For example, only half of the websites clearly display responsible gaming information at the top of their pages. Additionally, although all operators offer betting limits, many fail to provide clear explanations regarding gambling risks and addiction signs.
“Recent roundtable discussions and debates with politicians and the regulator emphasized the need for better implementation of the duty of care. We are offering concrete suggestions and hope the industry and policymakers take action,” says Floris Assies, author of the report.
The report includes an analysis and recommendations for policymakers and operators. These include the development of a standardized risk matrix for each type of gambling product, stricter instructions regarding the mandatory visibility of the warning phrase “Wat kost gokken jou? Stop op tijd (What does gambling cost you? Stop in time) 18+” , and more use of visual content to communicate responsible gambling more effectively.
Casino.nl urges operators, regulators, and policymakers to approach the duty of care not only as a legal obligation but as a mandate to educate and truly protect players through targeted measures and clear, understandable communication.
