Galaxy’s partner buys land in Boracay

The partner of Galaxy Entertainment Group in the Philippines has bought land on the island of Boracay, reportedly, for erecting a new casino in the island.
Galaxy Entertainment Group has been trying to open a casino resort in the area.
Rowen Aguirre, municipal executive assistant for Boracay affairs, said to media: “They have already acquired, I think, around 23 hectares in that area as of this time. I’ve heard that they’re still in negotiations with several other property owners for additional acquisition.”
Meanwhile, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.’s (PAGCOR) chairperson Andrea Domingo has refuted the reports that Galaxy Entertainment Group would stop its integrated resort project in Boracay. She stated that the final decision on this issue is still to be made and there was no formal communication between PAGCOR and the Secretary of Tourism on the matter.
Tourism Assistant Secretary Frederick Alegre was the official who generated the controversy after he told news reporters that the companies involved in the Boracay project were going to drop the project: “Galaxy has said they are now looking for another venue. That is very much welcome,” local media quoted.
