The Story Mob Names Senior NBA Communications Executive Maik Matischak As Head Of European Sports And Partnerships

The Story Mob, the world’s first full-service esports communications consultancy, today announced that Maik Matischak has been named Head of European Sports and Partnerships.
Based in Berlin, Matischak will lead The Story Mob’s expansion into sports and partnerships in Europe and develop bespoke esports strategies for traditional sports and brand entities active in the constantly evolving esports landscape. Additionally, he will be responsible for building up The Story Mob’s European headquarters in the German capital and will work closely with the company’s founders Kalie Moore, Nicola Piggott and Anna Rozwandowicz in expanding The Story Mob’s European business.
Matischak comes from the NBA where he led the Communications department for Europe and the Middle East as an Associate Vice President. In addition, he oversaw the holistic go-to-market strategy for Germany as an Associate Vice President, NBA Germany. Before his five and a half years with the NBA, Matischak was with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., an American multinational semiconductor company, where he led EMEA-wide PR activities for the consumer segment. Previously, he held the role of Senior International PR Manager for EA SPORTS in Geneva, Switzerland. Matischak also served as PR Director of NFL Europe franchise the Berlin Thunder, and subsequently as Director of Communications with NFL Europa in Frankfurt, Germany.
“Through our work with traditional sports and esports organizations, like the Premier League or G2 Esports, we’ve already seen how fast both types of sport are growing together,” said Rozwandowicz.“ Teams, leagues and federations on both sides are hungry for strategic communications counsel, that combines the best know-how and expertise in their esports-efforts and helps them speak to their fans in an authentic way. Maik, through his wealth of experience in the world of sports and beyond, is the perfect fit to lead our business development efforts in Europe across traditional sports and in the partnerships sectors.”
“I am thrilled to join The Story Mob, a first-class team with an incredibly deep esports knowledge, at such a ground-breaking time for the industry. Esports has quickly become an integral part of the traditional sports scene with more and more sport entities and brands becoming active in the world of esports. The potential for both industries is massive in not just growing closer together, but actually being able to learn from each other,” said Matischak. “I am very excited about being able to facilitate this exchange and to lead The Story Mob’s efforts to bridge the two sports-worlds in Europe.”
