Online gambling reaches four years of ops in New Jersey
The numbers released by the local regulator were studied by analysts and reveal a successful four years of operations.
According to the official figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), the state has generated US$683 million in online gambling revenue during the first four years of operations.
The figures were analyzed by PlayNJ.com, and showed that online casino games are the biggest source of income in the state. US$578 million of the total amount correspond to online gaming operations, which equal an 85 percent of the total amount collected in the state. Online poker has managed to achieve US$103 million ever since New Jersey regulated the online gaming industry four years ago. The state also generated an additional US$119 million in taxes.
Whilst New Jersey legalised the industry on November 26, 2013, these numbers report results until October 31 of the current year. Steve Ruddock, lead analyst of PlayNJ.com, said: “Four years of data shows us the incredible potential of legal online gaming. Online play has increased the revenues and customer bases of New Jersey’s land-based casino operators, and the residents of New Jersey have benefited from being able to safely gamble online at regulated sites that protect their financial information, offer fair games, and promote responsible play.”
And added: “First, online casinos are showing no signs of slowing down and second, online poker appears to destined for growth after New Jersey entered into an interstate agreement with Nevada and Delaware, in addition to the legalisation of online gaming in Pennsylvania, that could end a prolonged period of stagnation.”
