India: DM prohibits gambling during Diwali

The District Magistrate (DM), Capital Complex in an executive order has prohibited all kinds of gambling activities during the ensuing Diwali festival within Capital Complex.
Deputy Commissioner Cum District Magistrate Prince Dhawan issued the prohibitory order apprehending that some individuals and group of people may organize gambling activities in spite of the standing order banning all gambling activities in the state by the government.
The violators would be prosecuted under relevant provision of the laws, the order said.
The DM has constituted a team to conduct checking of such type of activities and instructed it to ensure that no gambling activities are organised within the jurisdiction of Capital Complex.
Meanwhile, the DM has directed the teams consisting of administrative officers and Police to conduct checking on all traders, vendors selling and possessing fireworks, crackers without obtaining proper license granted by the District Magistrate in LE- 5 in the Capital Complex. The order further stated that anyone found selling and possessing fireworks/ crackers in illegal manner without license would be booked under appropriate section of law and directed the team to seize such materials.
