UK’s advertising regulator warns gaming company

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA), UK’s advertising regulatory body, has issued a new warning to Gala Interactive for irresponsible marketing campaign that breached the code of acceptable practices. Gala Interactive is the Gibraltar-based division of Ladbrokes Coral Group.
ASA warned the company over the content of a newly launched marketing campaign. The campaign under fire was launched on May 5th for its galaspins.com website. The ASA received complaints that the advertising campaign implies that that gambling involved some type of skill instead of chance, and could be seen as socially irresponsible.
ASA stated the following in a press release: “In that context, the claim therefore implicitly suggested that viewers could exercise a degree of skill or would be able to improve their opportunity to win at a game of chance. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and thereby breached the CAP Code.”
