Delay in gambling reform: UK sports minister resigns

The sports minister of the UK, Tracey Crouch has quit for what she terms an unjustifiable delay in lowering the maximum amount that can be wagered on gambling machines.
She had actively campaigned for the reduction in maximum stake on electronic slot machines to counter problem gambling. A law has been passed to reduce the maximum state to 2 pounds ($2.60) from 100 pounds ($130). However, the government has decided that the new legislation would come into effect only on October 2019. Crouch has resigned over this delay enactment of the rule.
In a resignation letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, she said more money and lives would be lost till that time. Crouch tweeted Thursday: “Politicians come and go but principles stay with us forever.”
