Russia extends battle against offshore betting
Russia continues its activities to curb the menace of illegal offshore betting companies. Recently, Yandex, the popular Russian search engine, has excluded links to offshore betting companies from its search results. Yandex excludes websites associated with the bookmakers as well.
The search engine is merely complying with the Russian law. According to the relevant portion of the law, titled “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”, search engines, including Yandex, do not have the right to show Russian users links to resources included in the unified register of prohibited information of Roskomnadzor, the Russian mass media and telecommunications regulator.
Roskomnadzor has already barred more than 10000 domains so far.
