Germany to Allow Online Casino Games
German legislators have decided to allow online casino games in Germany, within a strict regulatory framework, Glücksspielneuregulierungstaatsvertrag (GlüneuRStV). The new regulatory regime will come into force on 1 July 2021.
The framework comprises strict measures on player protection guidelines and addiction prevention measures.
As per the new framework, operators can offer online slots, poker and sports betting. However, they will have to limit in-play betting markets to next goalscorer and final results and establish a €1 per spin stake limit. Online table games, such as blackjack and roulette, will not be permitted in the transition period. There will also be a €1,000 monthly for each player.
Any breach of the regulations will result in the withdrawal of the license and possible blacklisting.
