Pennsylvania to improve gambling addiction services

Pennsylvania is planning responsible the state’s gambling expansion, which not only includes provision for mini casinos, video gaming terminals and new lottery games, but also allots millions of dollars towards addiction services.
The state’s Drug and Alcohol Programmes Secretary Jennifer Smith said: “We know that there are a lot of people out there who don’t seek treatment.”
Last year, the state spent more than 100 uninsured people to seek treatment. The gambling hotline got more than 5000 calls for casino or lottery-related problems. The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programmes is doubling down on its services.
“Our department has been working with the lottery, Gaming Control Board, to really decide strategically how could we spend that money to better reach some of these populations,” said Smith.
