South Carolina police cracks down illegal gambling
The North Charleston Police Department’s S.P.E.E.D. Team has cracked down illegal gambling operations at 5700 Dorchester Rd. in North Charleston.
The police has recovered evidence such as 11 functional Pot of Gold illegal gambling machines, and one inoperable machine, apart from $4,015 dollars, two ledgers, and a notebook with names.
The investigating officer said the police acted following a complaint about illegal gambling at the business.
The officer says he saw several people leaving the business even though it appeared to be closed. He also observed several security cameras, which he says are common for illegal gambling operations.
The officer says he saw Steve Zhang lock the door in a hurry and throw a backpack into the trunk of a car. The officer spoke with Zhang, saying he was very nervous and unable to name the owner of the business.
He says Zhang admitted there were gambling machines inside the business, and that the backpack contained money. The officer says Zhang waived his rights, agreeing to take the officer inside the business and show him the gambling machines.
Additional officers responded after receiving a search warrant, and seised all evidence.
For his cooperation, Zhang was giving a courtesy summons for Operating an Illegal Gambling House. He is due in court on June 26th.
