Online casinos in Denmark posts revenue rise in Q1

The Spillemyndigheden, the casino regulator in Denmark, has reported impressive casino growth of online casinos and an increase in gaming revenue in the first quarter.
Gross gambling revenue in the opening three months of the year amounted to DKK1.52bn (€203.9m/$237.3m) up by 8.9 per cent on Q1 of 2017 but down 8.7 per cent on the final quarter of last year.
Online casino was responsible for DKK520.8m of this amount, with this total up 25.5 per cent on the same period last year and also 8.7 per cent more than in Q4 of 2017.
The Spillemyndigheden noted that it changed online casino calculations in the first quarter to also include internet bingo results, with this sector responsible for just DKK15m of the overall online result.
Sports betting remains the main source of income after generating DKK555.4m in the quarter, which is up 7 per cent on the corresponding period last year, but down 22 per cent on Q4 of 2017.
Elsewhere, online poker continued to suffer after posting DKK27.9m in revenue, down from DKK34.9m in Q1 of last year.
