Six arrested for illegal online gambling in Malaysia
The police Shah Alam, a Malaysian city, has detained six persons, one of them a citizen of Bangladesh, in connection with illegal online gambling activities. Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib said police officials raided the premises where the the online gambling facilities were run after a tip-off from the public.
“In the first raid, a Shah Alam special force arrested a Bangladeshi man. We also confiscated a hand phone and RM200 in cash. We arrested five locals in the second raid and confiscated five tablets, a modem and RM370 in cash which were believed to have been used in the gambling activity at the premise,” he said, adding that the special force consisting of police officers from several divisions was established to curb this illegal activity.
“The raids show how serious we take this gambling issue. We’re not going to compromise with any gambling syndicates that try to operate here in Shah Alam,” he said.
