Melco Donates 500,000 Surgical Masks to Macau Government
Melco Resorts and Entertainment has donated 500,000 more surgical masks to the Macau SAR Government, including 200,000 to be donated directly to designated operating NGOs under the Social Welfare Bureau.
The masks will go to help vulnerable groups in the community such as the elderly, single families, long-term patients and medical patient support staff, Melco said.
“We trust the combined efforts of the Macao SAR Government, businesses and members of the public will enable us to collectively overcome COVID-19 and become an ever-stronger and more united community,” Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco, said.
“We are grateful for the Government’s continued anti-epidemic efforts and hope the mask donation will support frontline medical workers in their daily fight against the spread of the virus. We also express gratitude to our community partners for joining us in distributing the 200,000 masks at this difficult time to persons in need through operating NGOs under Social Welfare Bureau, as well as reaching out to the community’s accommodation service users,” Lawrence Ho added.
Melco’s recent initiatives to help minimise the socioeconomic impact of coronavirus include hiring 100 local resident construction workers; a HK$20 million donation to Wuhan and Hubei; a MOP$5 million donation to set up a Special Aid Fund for Workers in Need; and a MOP$3 million donation to the Women’s General Association of Macau for the purchase of face masks and providing allowance scheme to the impacted families.
