Luckbox awards success ‘highlights esports betting progress’
A major award win for Luckbox shows the gambling industry is finally starting to take esports betting seriously, according to the company’s CEO.
Luckbox, which specialises in allowing players to bet on esports (professional video games), was recognised with the Rising Star accolade at the EGR Operator Awards 2020.
The EGR awards are among the most prestigious in the gambling industry and the Rising Star among the “headline” categories.
Judges said “Luckbox was head and shoulders above everyone else”, that the company was “a really interesting entrant to a growing new market and maybe the first to really nail things and compete with the larger book” and “really on top of the business and it definitely feels like it is going places”.
This year has been a breakthrough for esports betting with the Covd-19 pandemic interrupting the calendar for traditional sport and seeing a huge increase in online activity.
Luckbox CEO Quentin Martin said: “We know that esports betting is already massive and has the highest growth potential of any vertical but it really feels like the wider gambling industry is starting to take esports seriously now.
“Previously, for many operators, esports was an afterthought or something of a novelty but we’re starting to see that change now.
“I think our award – at what is regarded as the Oscars of the igaming industry – is a reflection of that. Highly respected industry stalwarts are now giving esports betting the respect it deserves.”
Luckbox was also nominated for Esports Operator of the Year and In-House Product at the EGR Operator Awards.
The award is another milestone in a highly successful year for Luckbox and the company is in the final stages of its preparations to be publicly listed on the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange.
Luckbox is celebrating its award success by offering customers a €5 Free Bet this week.
