Gambling Research: Academic Approach
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Gambling is one of the favorite activities of many people. It is valid for Germany, too. In this country alone, more than half a milliard euros was spent on gambling during the previous year. Now, there are talks about the legalization of gambling on the web.

Thus, the gambling role is now the topic with which the researchers of Ruhr-university work. This is a new institution that is going to work with such fields as gambling and society.

The departments of right and interdisciplinary departments will research the topic. Julian Kuper, one of the university professors, believes that he with his colleagues has a very interesting task. The study is promising to be fun. They are basically going to research a concept that isn`t regarded as a scientific phenomenon – the concept of happiness. It is closely connected with the role of gambling in people`s lives.

Researchers from the University of Wuppertal will also participate in the research. Also scientists from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf will take part in it. Thus, it will be possible to assess the role of gambling in the lives of different people more accurately. And it, in turn, will allow to develop laws to find a solution to the problem of gambling addiction.

The project isn`t financed by the government. Private companies are interested in this. For example, among the financing organizations, you can find Westlotto, Verband der deutschen Automatenwirtschaft, and some more. Initially, the financing was planned to last 5 years. Further, the future of the project will depend on the results.

Some critics insist that the research independence is questionable because the research is financed by interested parties. However, considering that the local budgets get a big piece of income in the form of taxes from gambling, it is unclear indeed why they hesitate to finance the project.

Let`s remember also that right now, online gambling might become legal in Germany. Right now, online gambing is in the so-called grey zone. Thile online gambling isn`t regulated in Germany, it can still exist there in accordance with the valid legislation of the EU.

Unlike Germany, where the role of online games is still in limbo and the law related to them must go through a series of brokering restructuring, in other German-speaking countries, such as, for example, Austria and Switzerland, online gambling is not something prohibited or outside the law. Here you can always try your luck and meet some of the best casino providers in the world market, such as BWIN, Playamo, or Maneki.  By the way, the last one Brand is always happy to offer you new promotions and warmly invites you to visit it. What, in fact, is evidenced by their main symbol – a maneki cat.
